Complex Litigation Paralegal - Job Description

Position Summary

The firm is seeking an experienced Complex Litigation Paralegal to support attorneys handling multi-party, high-exposure, and document-intensive litigation in Missouri state and federal courts. This role requires advanced organizational skills, strong analytical abilities, and comfort working with large volumes of data and tight deadlines. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of managing complex cases from initial investigation through trial and appeal.

Core Responsibilities

  • Case Development and Management - Coordinate all stages of complex litigation, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, expert work, and trial preparation. Maintain case calendars, deadlines, and litigation workflows across multiple active matters.

  • Discovery Oversight - Manage large-scale document collections, reviews, and productions. Work with e-discovery platforms to organize, code, and analyze documents. Prepare privilege logs, deposition exhibits, and document indices.

  • Drafting and Research - Prepare drafts of pleadings, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, deposition summaries, medical or technical chronologies, and case status reports. Conduct factual research using court databases, public records, and internal files.

  • Deposition and Trial Support - Assist with witness preparation, exhibit lists, trial binders, demonstratives, and logistics. Provide in-court or war-room support during hearings and trials as needed.

  • Expert and Client Coordination - Serve as a liaison with clients, experts, and vendors. Assist with expert retention, document exchanges, scheduling, and preparation of expert materials.

  • Court Filing and Compliance - Prepare and file documents in Missouri state courts, the Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri, and appellate courts. Ensure compliance with local rules, e-filing procedures, and formatting requirements.

  • Case Organization and Administration - Maintain organized case files, track litigation budgets, and support billing documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of litigation paralegal experience, with a focus on complex, commercial, product liability, mass tort, or class action matters.

  • Strong knowledge of Missouri state court procedures, federal rules, and local practices in St. Louis County and surrounding jurisdictions.

  • Proficiency with e-discovery platforms such as Relativity, Everlaw, DISCO, or similar tools.

  • Excellent writing, proofreading, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Bachelor's degree or paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting trials in federal court or high-volume state court litigation.

  • Familiarity with medical records, expert discovery, or technical subject matter.

  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large datasets.

  • Experience coordinating with outside vendors, including court reporters, e-discovery providers, and trial technology teams.
